Cabaret chanteuse Mistress Ginger delves into the Kurt Weill songbook, exploring dark corners of the human experience, tripping through seedy beer halls, and finding redemption lost in the stars and graced by the moon. With Franco Holder on piano, this evening of musical enchantment features classic songs of Berlin and American theater, including “Mack the Knife,” “Surabaya Johnny,” and “September Song.”

Kurt Weill was a German-born composer who began writing for theater in the 1920s during the rise of fascism and then fled Nazi Germany for Paris in 1933, ultimately settling in New York in 1935, where he found success writing for Broadway. His provocative songs live on the spectrum between classical art song, jazz, and musical theater, with lyrics by Bertolt Brecht, Langston Hughes, and other poetic luminaries.
